‘I started working with Susan at a very challenging time in my life. As a hospital consultant, the first wave of Covid was starting and I had newly taken on a leadership role for the trust. I was beginning to feel totally overwhelmed, panicking at all the unknowns I was dealing with at the time and rather lost. It felt like I had no tools to help navigate the situation but also to bring people along with me when we had so much uncertainty to deal with. Susan gave me the confidence to deal with this uncertainty, to be compassionate leader in a time when this was a really essential tool. I learnt to be comfortable with who I am and not try to be something I was not. She taught me about self compassion and how to be a compassionate leader. As Covid came and went, Susan continued to help me as I grew as a leader and onto a more senior role. Susan has a way of letting you explore your inner self and come up with the answers. But she was always there, gently guiding and clearly has huge experience. I felt safe. The things we discussed have stuck with me and feel very woven into my life now. I can’t thank her enough.’ — NHS hospital consultant and executive (Pro bono client)
‘Susan and I started working together at a time when I had taken on my first senior leadership position. New to the position, she helped me understand the interlinking of all dimensions of life – professional and personal – and the need to get all in balance. Through our continued work together over six years including her introducing me to the practice of mindfulness, we’ve explored the impact of emotions on behaviour, the challenges of managing internal voices, limiting beliefs and fears, greater self-awareness and the importance of self-care. All of which have been instrumental skills which I’ve relied upon as I’ve progressed through my career in recent years – now to a Director of the company. Our work together continues to shape me into a more resilient, supportive, confident and agile leader.’ — Marketing director in the motor industry
‘When I first came to Susan it was with the realisation that the old ways of working were suddenly not working anymore. I was depleted, lacked confidence and had forgotten me. I had lost my way. As a mother of very young children and an aspiring research leader and STEM academic, I thought if I worked harder for longer I could achieve my goals within a certain time frame while being an effective mother and wife. This was not the case. Slowly my anxieties filled my day, I became less productive and was unhappy. At the point I was undertaking doctoral studies alongside my work and was unable to luxuriate in the life I had worked hard to create. Susan’s expertise in psychology and mindfulness helped me to understand why I was feeling the way I did. Susan listened and took the time to tailor a bespoke package of goal orientated life changes that I could easily implement and fit into my busy schedule. I enjoyed taking control of my destiny again and not simply letting life happen to me. Susan’s care and attention to detail improved my confidence as a researcher within a male dominated environment; she enabled me to ‘take my space’ or my seat at the table. I have since successfully completed my doctorate and have realised that I can be an effective academic, mother and wife using the strategies that Susan has helped me to put in place. Although this is a gradual journey and I am still a work in progress, I am able to make the valuable contribution again. The change Susan has made to my life is simply beyond measure.’ — Lecturer and post-doctoral STEM research associate
